The #saveoursummits Mt Beerwah event was an outstanding success with over 120 people turning out in support of keeping the summit climb open. Queensland National Parks will hopefully take note and unlike their NSW counterparts, fairly consult with climbers in any future decision about the climb. I was a bit disappointed with press coverage with major dailies focusing on the Matilda's game against France. You think there was more going on in the world than a football game! Local press provided some coverage including this report in the Gold Coast News (below) and a great radio interview with organiser Craig Evans on Gold Coast ABC ( LINK ). Congratulations to the event organisers and all those who showed up! Well done - the battle has only just begun.
Our mountains belong to all of us. The Right to Climb them and bask in their views that inspire awe and wonder is as old as the human genome. This long-established cultural tradition is under threat by a small group of bureaucrats determined to impose their way on the rest of the world. It is right to Climb because we have the Right to climb. If you don’t exercise your rights you lose them. Don't let petty nanny state bureaucrats take them away.
