Mt Beerwah - reopening event a success

The #saveoursummits Mt Beerwah event was an outstanding success with over 120 people turning out in support of keeping the summit climb open. Queensland National Parks will hopefully take note and unlike their NSW counterparts, fairly consult with climbers in any future decision about the climb.  I was a bit disappointed with press coverage with major dailies focusing on the Matilda's game against France. You think there was more going on in the world than a football game! Local press provided some coverage including this report in the Gold Coast News (below) and a great radio interview with organiser Craig Evans on Gold Coast ABC ( LINK ).   Congratulations to the event organisers and all those who showed up!  Well done - the battle has only just begun.

Mt Beerwah event 12 August

Facebook Group Save our Summits have organised a climb at Mt Beerwah this coming Saturday, August 12, 2023. More details on their web page. Show up and join the group to show your support for continued access to our National Parks....  https://www.facebook.com/groups/sossaveoursummits Mt Beerwah is under threat of a permanent closure as Aboriginal activists pressure Queensland National Parks to close public access to the mountain. The climb up Mt Beerwah is an exhilerating rock scramble that leads to beautiful views over the other Glass House Mountains and the surrounding coastal plains. This walk is there for all of us!
